Good news for Gmail users, now Gmail users can send SMS to any mobile number from chat window absolutely free of cost. To use this service you have to add mobile number in the address book of Gmail to which you want to send SMS. After that you can send free SMS to any mobile number by just using chat window. If you get any reply from that number it will be directly visible to you in chat window. Till yet Google hasn’t informed about this service officially, but this option has been started  to appear in chat window of many users.















50 SMS Credit To Everyone

Every Gmail user will get a credit of 50 SMS in starting. After sending 1 message 1 credit will be deducted from this 50 credits. If you get reply from the same number on which you have send SMS, then you will get an additional benefit of 5 credits, which will be added to your account. Google has started this service with cellular operators. Means these companies will share revenue of the sent SMS from their network by these numbers with Google.

SMS Credit Can Be Increase From Own Mobile

It has been written in Google’s chat help portal that you can send SMS from chat window to your own mobile number and also can reply several times to that. For every SMS you will get 5 credits, means it is the method to buy the credits for this service by paying your own network operator. Interesting thing is that on one time maximum of 50 credits can be stored in users account. Means if you reply back on that number after your credit is filled to 50 credits, then you will not get more credits. If you send 50 SMS and you will get no reply then your account be will be empty. But Google says that your credit will be increased again in 24 hrs.

Enable Free SMS Service

To enable this service follow this process
1.) First go to Settings. First Click on gear on right hand side. It will expand and then by clicking Settings.
























2.) Now Click on Labs tab to enter there.















3.) Enable SMS (text messaging) in chat option over there as in above image.
4.) Scroll down and search for SMS in Chat Gadget and also enable it. If you can’t find this you can skip this step because even i can’t find this option. But if this option is over there, then you have to enable it.

Procedure To Send Free SMS

1.) Login to your Gmail account. Make sure to login in standard view not Html view.
2.) Now click on chat button at left bottom of Gmail.







3.) Now a window will popup like below image.





4.) Enter the mobile number here on which you want to send SMS and a option to Send SMS will come. Just click on Send SMS.








5.) A popup will come to enter the contact name. Just enter the desired contact name and click save.







6.) I have entered Kshitij and then clicked save. Then a screen to send the SMS to this number will come on right bottom of your screen showing your remaining credits as well.








7.) Now write your message and press enter to send your message. You can also use smileys while sending SMS.
